The U.S. Small Business Administration has launched the Made in America Manufacturing Initiative, a package of measures aimed at revitalizing domestic manufacturing by better empowering the sector’s small businesses.
What to know: Announced by SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler, the initiative aligns with President Donald Trump’s agenda to create high-paying jobs, secure supply chains, promote fair trade, and grow blue-collar jobs. Key components of the initiative include:
Regulatory reduction: The SBA plans to eliminate $100 billion in regulatory burdens through its Office of Advocacy, which is tasked with identifying and removing rules that disproportionately affect small businesses and manufacturers.
Red tape hotline: A new hotline will be established for small business owners and manufacturers to provide feedback on burdensome regulations, facilitating a direct line of communication for concerns and suggestions.
Office of Manufacturing and Trade: The SBA is launching this office to offer dedicated resources and training to small manufacturers, in collaboration with SBA field offices nationwide.
Enhanced access to capital: The initiative seeks to reduce barriers to the 504 loan program, which provides capital for real estate, construction, and equipment purchases.
Workforce development: By partnering with agencies, trade schools, and private sector stakeholders, the SBA aims to create a pipeline of skilled workers to support the manufacturing sector.
Support for manufacturing policies: The initiative endorses policies such as tariffs to ensure fair trade, tax cuts on domestic production, and 100% expensing retroactive to January 20, 2025, for manufacturers.
Hitting the road: To engage directly with small manufacturers, representatives from the Office of Manufacturing and Trade will embark on a multistate “Made in America Roadshow” over the next two months. This tour will include roundtable discussions to gather feedback and address challenges faced by small manufacturers.
