Chevron Corporation has unveiled a significant restructuring plan aimed at streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency. The company will consolidate its Oil, Products & Gas divisions into two distinct segments: an Upstream operation and a Downstream, Midstream & Chemicals (DM&C) operation.
Job cuts already telegraphed: Chevron says the move is part of a broader strategy to simplify business structures and position Chevron for sustained growth. It follows recently announced plans to cut the company’s global workforce by 15% to 20% by the end of 2026, a move expected to affect approximately 8,000 employees.
Management shuffle: The newly announced organizational framework includes a number of leadership changes. Among them, Clay Neff, currently serving as President of International Exploration and Production, will assume the role of President of the Upstream segment effective July 1, 2025. Vice Chairman Mark Nelson will oversee the overall Oil, Products & Gas organization.
Savings drive: Mike Wirth, Chevron's chairman and CEO, said the new organizational structure and leadership appointments were designed to improve our operational efficiency and position Chevron for sustained growth. The company aims to achieve $2 billion to $3 billion in cost savings through measures such as asset sales, technological advancements, and changes in work processes.
