Demand is increasing steadily for advanced electrification technologies, driven by growth in key sectors including data centers and utilities.
Industrial technology giant ABB has announced a $120 million investment to expand its U.S. manufacturing capabilities, aimed at meeting the growing demand for advanced electrification products across key sectors such as data centers and utilities.
American manufacturing resurgence: The company says the move underscores its commitment to strengthening its presence in the U.S., its largest global market. The announcement comes as the Trump administration seeks to persuade industry to boost their local operations, including through the threat of import tariffs.
One new plant, one expansion: Two ABB said the investment would be split across two significant projects it has planned:
The great energy transition: "Demand is increasing steadily for advanced electrification technologies, driven by growth in key sectors including data centers and utilities," ABB's CEO, Morten Wierod, said in a statement. "Our new facilities in Selmer and Senatobia will keep our U.S. customers at the cutting edge of the energy transition and help them meet their performance, productivity, and energy efficiency goals."
Previous U.S. investments: ABB said over the past three years, it has invested more than $500 million in its U.S. operations, reflecting its dedication to supporting local manufacturing and innovation. Those investments have included a $100 million manufacturing facility and innovation laboratory for industrial electric drives in New Berlin, Wisconsin, and new $40 million factory set to open in Albuquerque, New Mexico in April 2025, focused on manufacturing the latest technologies for power grid hardening and resilience.
